Optical filtering is a key function in optical transmission, and Avanex masters major technologies used for passive components - Micro-optics with thin-film deposition, and fiber-based devices.

Optical filtering is used to combine several WDM channels into one single fiber or to extract an optical channel or a set of channels from a WDM combination. It is also used in amplification, to shape the wavelength response of the EDFA at the optimum value required by systems. Additionally, filters are used to lock signal or pump lasers at precise wavelengths and for channel phase response reshaping, when light accumulates chromatic dispersion along transmission fiber.

Avanex provides advanced mux/demux modules in channel counts up to 40, wavelength spacings of 200, 100, 50 and 25 GHz which feature high channel isolation, low insertion loss and long-term reliability.

Multiplexing solutions from Avanex feature high channel isolation, low insertion low and long-term reliability.
